Lieutenant General Vinod Vashisht, AVSM, VSM** took over as Director General National Cadet Corps on 23rd Dec 2016. The General Officer is an alumni of National Defence Academy and was commissioned in to the Regiment of Artillery on 09 Jun 1979.

In his military career he has attended various courses of prestige to include Long Gunnery Staff Course, Defence Services Staff College, Higher Command Course and National Defence College. Besides, he has attended IAS Professional Course Phase II (LBSNAA, Mussoorie) and Emergency Management Course at Melbourne, Australia.

The General Officer commanded 312 Field Regiment, 25 Artillery Brigade (both in Counter Insurgency Operations in J&K), Artillery Centre Nasik and 41 Artillery Division as part of 21 Corps (Strike Corps). He has held the appointment of Commandant, Officer Training Academy Gaya prior to the current assignment.

Among the other assignments tenanted by the officer are regimental duties in units with varying gun profile, staff in Directorate General of Military Operations, Operational Logistics, MS Branch, Colonel General Staff of an Armoured Division, Secretary Chiefs of Staff Committee and Additional Director General in Military Training Directorate. He also held the appointment of Additional Military Secretary (A) from 2013-2015 which was assigned to manage postings and career progression of all officers of the Army upto the rank of Colonel. In addition, he has been an Instructor at School of Artillery and a part of Indian Army Training Team at Botswana (Africa).

The General Officer is married to Mrs Kanak Vashisht and they have a daughter and twin sons. The family hails from Himachal Pradesh.
